Direct Reception

If your local operator does not carry our channel, by entering into contract directly with Japan International Broadcasting or its agents in some countries, direct reception is available for a fee. For details on application for direct reception, visit How to Subscribe.
  • Direct reception is available only for businesses, organizations, and hotels.
  • To receive the channel, you will need to set up on your own a satellite reception antenna and a special tuner.
  • Check the distribution areas at Distribution Area.
  • Check the contract details at Service Agreement.

Reception Equipment

What equipment do I need to receive "NHK World Premium"?
In order to receive the "NHK World Premium" transmission, you will need to set up on your own a satellite reception antenna, at least 2.5 meters in diameter, a rod-shaped LNB (Low Noise Block Converter), and a special digital satellite tuner (IRD) pre-registered for reception.
  • The required size and orientation of the antenna differ depending on the location. For details, please contact our customer center from the web form.
  • The rod-shaped LNB (Low Noise Block Converter) must be linearly polarized with local oscillator at 5.150GHz.
  • Your TV monitor must be NTSC or multi-system.

Where can I purchase the satellite reception antenna and LNB? Can you help me find a retailer?
Please contact your local satellite antenna retailers. We are unable to provide information on local stores/retailers.
How can I purchase the special tuner (IRD) to receive "NHK World Premium"?
To purchase a special tuner (IRD), you need an "IRD Order Form" issued by Japan International Broadcasting. For more details, visit Direct Reception

I already have a special tuner (IRD) which was passed on from a friend. How can I start receiving the channel?
Fill in the Viewer Application form and fax it to our customer center. Make sure that all required items are completed, including the 12-digit TID number, which is indicated on the underside or on the back of your IRD.

After you have completed the set up of the IRD, we will activate the IRD for the reception of the "NHK World Premium." For details, refer to the links below:

What is a "TID number"?
"TID" stands for "Tracking ID." TID number is the 12-digit number on the underside or the back of your special tuner (IRD).
Can I rent the special tuner (IRD)?
We do not have an IRD rental service.

Reception Equipment Trouble

My IRD is out of order.

I cannot watch "NHK World Premium" and I see a "no signal" sign on the monitor.
You may not be receiving the signal properly. Contact our customer center from the web form.
I was able to watch dramas before, but now I can't.
You are watching "NHK World TV." Check if your IRD is tuned to "NHK World Premium" on channel 51 on the IRD.
If you are watching "NHK World Premium," you should see NHK World Premium on the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
Meanwhile, for "NHK World TV," you should seeNHK World TV.
My antenna is out of order. Can you help me find an antenna retailer who can help me?

Suspension / Cancellation

I wish to suspend my direct reception with Japan International Broadcasting.
Please contact our customer center as soon as possible, using the web form. When filling out the form, you will need your customer number which begins with a letter followed by a four-digit-number. You will find the number printed on invoices issued by our customer center.

Payment

How much is the monthly service fee for the direct reception of "NHK World Premium"? How do I pay?
For a single contract per television set, 3,000 yen/month. An extra service fee of 2,000 yen/month is charged per each additional television set.

Service fees can be paid either by credit card or wire transfer, on a quarterly deferred basis. For credit card payments, VISA or MasterCard are accepted. All wire transfers must be payable to Japan International Broadcasting. Remittance and bank commission fees must be borne by the subscriber.
When should I make the payment?
We will issue the invoices quarterly. If you wish to make a yearly payment, contact our customer center from the web form.

Do you accept credit cards other than that of the representative?
We require the cardholder to send us a letter of consent. Fill in and sign the consent form, then send it to our customer center.
The expiration date of my credit card has changed.
